Langdon
Fall Festival
In the summer of 2007, Langdon residents Andrea Cheeney and Kim Mastrianni
created the Langdon Fall Festival. The purpose of the event was two-fold. One
it would bring the residents of this quaint New England town together and
second to raise money for a play structure at the Sarah Porter School, a
two-room schoolhouse located in Langdon. The school services grades one
through four. The Festival was a celebration and exhibition of Langdon’s rich
history and talented craftsmen both young and old.
Our Langdon Heritage Commission set up in the Town Hall taking oral histories
from town residents. Craft vendors selling handmade products lined the
streets. A Fiber Arts tent was a huge hit; residents were able to see craft
demonstrations by local artists that included rug hooking and wool spinning.
The Langdon Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad provided the food and
several local musicians provided the entertainment.
The 2007 festival was a wonderful success. Each year we have continued to
expand the festival. In 2010 we had over 40 craft, non-profit, community and
school groups’ set-up tents for the day’s events. We were also able to expand
the children’s area with donations from AEBI New England and Holmes Farm. We
would like to thank Connecticut River Bank, the Town of Langdon and its
Residents for their continued support.
We have been able to bring the town’s people back together for a wonderful
time. We noticed that once people arrived they stayed for the day to visit
with friends and family. In fact, the comment heard most by people leaving the
festival is, “I didn’t realize there were so many talented people in the
area!”
Planning for the 2011 festival is underway. This year, the committee chairs
Andrea Cheeney and Kim Mastrianni will enlist the help of local residents and
business representatives to organize the event. Some of this year’s goals
include attracting more craft vendors and local artists to display their
wares, as well as expanding the children’s area, tractor show and historical
display in the town hall. This year’s festival proceeds will be going to
several non-profit community groups.
Please save the date September 29, 2012 from 10-4pm. We are currently seeking
vendors, (vendor agreement here,
PDF) non-profit, community and school groups. We are also looking for
local farms and craft demonstrators for this country festival. All items must
be handcrafted and approved by the festival committee. Please contact Andrea
Cheeney at 603.835.6999 or Kim Mastrianni at 603.835.6488 for more
information.
